The life of a smash cake....

This weekend was one of our good friends' daughter's first birthday. Little Macy Brooks is ONE!!! And I had the honor of creating her first cake!

The theme was backyard pool party, flip flops and beach balls, so decided to go with some girly flip flops....

Some pics from the party.....

I really love this theme for a first birthday party. Ashly had 3 baby pools set up in her backyard. The babies had a blast as well as the older sibling who came along. Water is fun for all ages so you can't go wrong!!

For party favors the kids got beach balls with a special message written on it.

Now, I did not make the cupcakes for this party so here is my sweet little Olivia chowing down on a "not made by mommy" cupcake!!! She is essentially cheating on me!!! ;)

So here is the smash cake one more time...just sitting there enjoying itself....so unaware of what its fate is. .

And then along came little Macy Brooks!!!!!

I guess thats just the life of a smash cake.... ;)

What do you call this???

What should I call this?? Technically speaking it is a cupcake (its a cake in a cup) so maybe thats just what I should call it. :)

My neighbor's daughter is going off to school (The University of Auburn) and I wanted to send a little good luck sweet thing along with her. I found these Auburn Tervis Tumblers and they got me thinking...how can I spice these up???

So this is what I did....

I got a couple of cupcakes...

Started off with a dolip of frosting at the bottom of the cup....

Cut one of the cupcakes in half and dropped it in...

Then I alternated between cake and icing until the cup was filled...

YUMMY right?
.
You know you want to take your finger and swipe the top of that!! I know this b/c I had 2 little girls and 1 husband who wouldn't stop begging me to do just that! (and, I have to admit...maybe I wanted to as well) ;)

.

.

Wrap it up and stick a fork in it!! (in this case, orange for Auburn)

And there you go...a "cup" cake!! (or cake in a cup, whatever you want to call it) :)

One for the college girl and another one for her baby sister who is NOT thrilled with the fact that big sister is leaving! :(

Gender Reveal Party

My good friend Jenny is pregnant with her first child and this weekend we threw a gender reveal party. I just love this concept!!! After their 20 week ultrasound she had the ultrasound tech give me a call with the gender information. I then made a cake which concealed the gender inside!! (blue filling for boy/pink filling for girl) They invited all their closest friends to celebrate her pregnancy and share this special moment. At 8:30 we cut the cake and revealed the baby's gender!!

The cake!! Inside held the secret of the baby's gender. Inside is either pink or blue icing...when the cake is cut the secret is out!!! :)

Guests were instructed to wear pink or blue to the party, whatever color they thought the gender was. Upon arrival guests were given pink or blue beads to match their guess.

.

Such a cute little baby bump...inside was the man (or) little lady of the hour...

We had so much fun (maybe too much) with these chocolate mustache and lip props. Love them!!!

The Proud Parents

Jenny "named" all the foods to fit the gender theme...her food labels were hilarious!

Good food........GREAT drinks!!!! How fun are these?!??

Time to cut the cake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Drum roll pleeeeeeease............

PINK OR BLUE????????
