Kentucky Derby Style Hat Cake

This cake was created for a bridal shower with a fun girly theme. Wear your big floppy Kentucky Derby hat and sip tea with the bride to be. I love it! :)

Made to match the invitations which were different shades of purple and black.

  2. Lovely job! Aside from the spiffy hat, the leaf cutouts are so pretty and delicate. Makes me think of all the hats at the Royal Wedding!

  4. Awesome idea!! Was the top (hat part) cake or rice krispies? How did you do the stencils? I'm a cake decorator myself and I'm always intrigued with stencil work. Fondant, royal icing, buttercream?

  5. The top of the hat is cake. I made it using the wilton sports ball pan and a thin 6 inch round layer. The stencil I found on globalsugarart.com Very cool stencil!! I'm new to using a stencil, but I like it so far!! :)
